Method 1: Checking Your Status via JAMB CAPS (The Primary Channel)
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is the most important platform for checking and accepting your admission. Your admission is not fully valid until you accept it on CAPS.
Follow these steps diligently:
- Visit the JAMB CAPS Portal: Go to the official JAMB e-Facility portal
- Log In: Enter your JAMB Registration Number and the password you created during your JAMB registration.
- Find CAPS: After logging in, locate the ‘Check Admission Status’ tab on the dashboard and click on it.
- Change View (Crucial Step): If you are using a phone, you must change your browser view to the ‘Desktop Site’ (usually found in your browser’s options menu). If you skip this, the CAPS link may not appear correctly.
- Click ‘Access My CAPS’: Click the ‘Access My CAPS’ button.
- Check Status: Look for the ‘Admission Status’ tab.
- If you are ADMITTED: You will see a message like “Congratulations, you have been offered Provisional Admission.”
- If you are NOT ADMITTED (Yet): You might see “Admission In Progress” (meaning the list is still being processed) or “Not Admitted”. Keep checking regularly.
- ACCEPT or REJECT: If admitted, you MUST click the ‘ACCEPT ADMISSION’ button to validate your space. Failure to do so within the stipulated time will result in your admission being withdrawn by JAMB.
Method 2: Checking Your Status on the UNIPORT Portal (ARIS)
The University of Port Harcourt often publishes the names of admitted candidates directly on its Academic Records Information System (ARIS) portal.
- Visit the UNIPORT ARIS Portal: Go to the official UNIPORT Admission Status Checker:

What to Do After Gaining Admission
Congratulations on successfully checking your status! Being admitted is just the first step. You must immediately take the following actions:
- Accept Admission on JAMB CAPS: As emphasized, this is MANDATORY. Do it first!
- Print Your JAMB Admission Letter: After accepting on CAPS, proceed to print your official JAMB Admission Letter. You will need this for physical clearance.
- Pay Acceptance Fee: Follow the instructions on the UNIPORT ARIS portal to pay the mandatory acceptance fee. This formally confirms your intent to take up the admission offer.
- Begin Physical/Online Clearance: Prepare all your required documents (O’Level result, Birth Certificate, Local Government Identification, UTME result, etc.) as you will soon be scheduled for physical or online screening and clearance at the University.
Important: Admission lists are released in batches (First Batch, Second Batch, Supplementary, etc.). If you see “Admission In Progress,” do not panic—continue to check both the JAMB CAPS and the UNIPORT portal daily.
